Latino College Expo

By Jessenia Varela-Gomez

On Wednesday, September 17, the National College Resources Foundation held their second annual Fresno Latino College Expo at the Fresno Convention and Entertainment Center in Downtown Fresno. Students were invited through their counselors and transported by bus. The event held over 50 public and private colleges in California, different trade schools, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and military programs. They had different workshops and seminars the students could listen to including “How to Survive in College as a First-Generation Student, Benefits of Going Out of State to College, and How to Find Money for College”. They had cash prizes for games and a live DJ. They also had a large amount of information on financial aid, helping students fill out the “DREAM ACT” application and even some scholarship opportunities.

There were booths from UC Humboldt, Chico State, UC Davis, Cal State Fullerton, SF State University, CSU San Marcos, UC Merced, UC Berkley, UC Santa Barbara, University of Las Vegas, Stanislaus, Oregon Tech, the Morehouse School of Medicine, Fresno city and Fresno State and many more. Students were encouraged to bring multiple copies of their transcripts as certain colleges were accepting them on the spot, waiving college application fees and giving away different scholarships.

There was also a non-college booth there including someone who sold personalized stoles, the organizer of the Latino High School Graduation Ceremony as well as a Native American Student booth. The expo also offered a scholarship opportunity where students could submit a small essay answering the question, “Why is education important to me?”. There were five winners including two students from Fresno High School, a junior, Alicia Morales and senior Jessenia Varela.

Welcome Back FHS!

by Valerie Juarez

Back-to-School Night at Fresno High was a success on September 3, bringing a lot of families to campus. Parents got a chance to follow their student’s schedule, moving from class to class to meet the teachers and learn what they'll be learning this year. It was a good way for parents to get a feel for a regular school day and meet the people who are teaching them. The whole night had a great feel to it, and it was cool to see everyone working together to get the year started right.

The event wasn’t just about the classes, either. Different student clubs and activities were mentioned to parents so they could hear what else goes on at our school. “It’s my first year in the marching band, and it feels good to perform for the parents to showcase what we’ve been working on,” Giselle Rangel said after her performance. It gave parents a good look at all the things we get to be involved in besides classwork.

School leaders were also there to answer any questions, which made things feel open and welcoming. The night was a great way to kick off the new school year and make sure everyone is on the same page for what’s to come in the years 2025-2026.

Fresno High Faces an uphill battle amidst construction

By Kylie Pellouso

The Fresno High Tennis teams have been facing a significant challenge this season due to the on-campus construction projects. After the FHS tennis courts were demolished in replacement of a new gym, the teams have been forced to relocate practices and home games at Roeding Park.

Roeding Park being 2.5 miles away from campus. With these new changes great controversy has come as transportation is not invited. Macy Yang, a member on the Girls tennis team has informed shared that the tennis team is only provided a van that fits 7 people besides the driver which Macy said that this has “forced the team to rely on one another and their guardians.” Ashley Lopez, another member on the Girl’s Tennis team added, “Me and my team feel unsafe constantly at the new location.”

Despite these challenges, the tennis teams remain committed to their sport and are working hard to adapt to the new circumstances.

Fresno Flea at FHS Every Month

All types of vendors sell at the Flea.

By Sofie Zuniga

Fresno Flea was a great way to get out and make connections with the Fresno Community. It was on September 13, Saturday, from 10am-2pm at the Fresno High parking lot. The theme was Summerween, so people got to go to the event dressed up for Halloween or whatever you want to wear.

The Fresno Flea first started in 2012 and was organized by Mrs. Kyra Orgill and Mrs. Cate Dossetti. The Fresno Flea was designed to be a fundraiser event for the students here at Fresno High School. The money raised goes to the students in many ways, some gets donated to clubs for field trips or fundraisers of their own, some go to prom and Homecoming tickets for diploma students, and the rest go to field trips. Fresno Flea is now run by a parent, Ms. Selena Martin, whose students used to attend Fresno High School.

Mrs. Orgill added, “We are always looking for student volunteers to help out with the event.” They host Fresno Flea at least 7 to 10 times a year. The next time Fresno Flea will be hosted will be on Saturday, October 11 and the theme will most likely be Halloween.

Senior Sunrise

by Jessenia Varela-Gomez

On August 22, 2025, the Senior Class of 2026 celebrated the start of their final year of high school with Senior Sunrise. Students woke up bright and early to be on campus at 5:30 am to catch the sun.

The event was run and decorated by the student Class of 2026. Seniors got to take photos in front of Winnie the Pooh themed balloon arches, big light up senior letters, hand painted back drops, use creative photo ops made by leadership and the class and even take pictures with Winnie the Pooh. There were even several types of games to be played in warrior park.

While the sun rose, students got to lay om blankets or gather around warrior park to watch the sun rise with the rest of their class and their close friends. During which students got the chance to buy a drink from Travlin Tom or enjoy some mini goodies from Bellas Mini Pancakes.

To end the event a big class photo was taken with all seniors' presents and then another photo with every senior who wore decorated “Senior Pants.” Seniors also had the opportunity to paint and put their hand on a big “Senior Class of 2026” poster hung up by the main entrance at the front of Fresno High.

Lola Medina, Class Treasure of 2026 said, “We were dedicated to ensuring Senior Sunrise would be a memorable experience for the class of 2026.”

Club Expo Returns

by Sofie Zuniga

This year's Club Expo at Fresno High was held during lunch on August 26-27, 2025. There will be lots of clubs and many opportunities. This is a great chance to expand your social circle, and if you join clubs, it will look great on your college essay and transcript. Some people even meet their lifelong friends in these clubs. There is an endless number of clubs, including GSA (Gay-Straight Alliance), Rock Climbing Club, Musical Club, lots of different art clubs, and more.

Some more info is that some of these clubs may be great for your physical and mental health. For instance, the Rock-Climbing Club, held by Ms. Ekparian, is great if you want to get into calisthenics, which is a type of fitness specialty. You can also get the opportunity to go on fun field trips. Last year, GSA got to go to the Tower Pride Parade at the end of the year. If you are trying to do something for the community, the Beautify Fresno Club is just for you. They help and connect with the community if you would be interested in an interactive club. “This club is a great chance to have service learning and help the community,” said Sisily Garcia (12) about Beautify Fresno.

Remember, it’s never too late to get involved with a club, just listen to the FHS bulletin announcements for what, where, and when.
