Varsity Cheer Has No Peer

Varsity Cheer Turns Out

by Ian Owdom

Fresno High Cheer really showed out this week at the Hoco Game.  Varsity main base Sydney Maroot said, “I really enjoy the elaborate dances, the routines, and just raising school spirit.” Varsity back spot Darrell Austin announced, “I joined Cheer because I like to dance, and I consider myself very athletic.”

When asked how Cheer has affected them as a person, players responded quite similarly. Darrell sums up the sentiment nicely. “Being in Cheer has opened many doors for me and helped shape me into who I am today.”

Sideline Cheer is a part of the football team and a representative of Fresno High. Coaches Jocelyn Estrada, Ashlee Garcia, Layla Rojas, and Luis Sepulveda lead this squad through routine after routine, all with a smile on their faces. “The four years that I have spent in on varsity cheer have made me proud to attend and represent Fresno high school,” shared Sydney Maroot.
