Famous Dave’s Bar-B-Que
By Jessenia Varela-Gomez
My family and I ordered take-out from Famous Dave’s Bar-B-Que to celebrate a family birthday. The outside of the restaurant is decorated with bricks and the famous pig. There is a decently sized parking lot with up-close handicap parking as well as parking reserved for to go orders. Walking in you are almost immediately greeted by the front staff who give a welcoming feeling. There are two doors to separate those who are dining in and those who are picking up or placing to-go orders. The subtle lights and quiet noise are perfect if you want to enjoy an evening dinner with your family, especially during the week. The inside interior is even more intriguing to look at than the outside of the building. The artwork of barbeque, Fresno State merch, the famous Dave pig, and trophies showing off their achievements.
To celebrate my aunt's birthday, they ordered the “Large Smoked Meat Kit.” This meal serves from 10-12 people, and it includes, 2lb of Texas Beef Brisket, 2 Slabs of St. Louis Styled Spareribs, 2lb of Georgia Chopped Pork, and 2 Whole Chickens of either BBQ or Country Roasted for $210 plus tax. This meal does not come with any side, but we personally made our own. While the meal is meant for 10-12 people, we still had a good amount of food left over. The meal also comes with a bunch of their famous BBQ sauce in both flavors of “Rich and Sassy” and “Devil’s Spit” as well as utensils and plates enough for all. The servers all work as a team so while one girl was originally helping both the to-go orders and the dine-in customers another server came out to help her and attend to us. This server took our name and went back to bring us out the order. Looking at our order page he went over everything on our list and ensured we had everything we needed before leaving. The two servers we met were extremely nice and helpful.
The food was all cooked well and came in good portions. We had 8 people, and they were all able to go back in four seconds. The Georgia Chopped Pork and the spareribs were the best parts of the meal. The brisket was not my favorite as it was quite fatty, but it did have a good flavor overall. The meat on the ribs fell off the bone and the pulled pork was covered in barbeque sauce but with a good amount, nothing too overpowering or dry. The barbecue sauce was not my favorite as it was more savory whereas I tend to like my barbecue sauce sweet. Overall, the experience was a 10/10, and I recommend you try this restaurant if you are looking for a good barbeque place in Fresno.
