Varsity Baseball

By: Mariah Andersen-Price

The Varsity Warrior Baseball team has been training hard since December of 2022 in order to be ready for the start of the season, February 16, in which they played and promptly beat Coalinga High School 7 to 1. Senior Jordan Chairez said, “I have a goal for the team is to become NYL Champions.” Players Richie Rosas and Jordan Chairez have hopes of making it to the playoffs, with Jordan stating, “I would want to go to the playoffs to play Madera again because we shouldn’t have lost like that.”

Through the rainy season, training must be tough for an outdoor sport such as baseball, however, Warrior Baseball refuses to quit and spends the rainy days training in either, “the batting cages or a facility to get swings in.” According to Richie Rosas, a third-year player on the team.

After losing games to Clovis North, Bakersfield, Centennial, and Madera, Jordan has tried to keep his teammates’ heads held high by telling reminding them, “That we are a good team, as long as we don’t lose ourselves in the loss, there’s hope.”

To do this Jordan believes the team should maintain their “great communication skills because, as long as you communicate with each other we can evaluate what helps us and what doesn’t.” Richie said that having, “Great chemistry and wanting to be a better team for your teammates” is what makes the Warrior Baseball team such a catch.

The team practices Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:30 to 6:30, with games being on Tuesdays and Fridays at 3:30. Their most recent game was against Hoover, which they won ten to three.
