Door Decorating: Delightful and Community Building Event

by Kiana Jones

The contest was a fun activity for the holidays for community bonding and togetherness. The students of fourth period classes were given 10 days (about 1 and a half weeks) to decorate the doors in their teacher’s choice of design. Once doors were completed, FHS was given a week to vote for their favorites.

There were ten decorated doors in total participating in the contest.  The library, counseling office, the gym, S43, S74, Mrs. Moorehead, S50, S70, S11, and N201 all participated in the event. The library created a fireplace and window peering out at a snowy scene. The counseling office decorated their door with a tree and Snoopy on his doghouse. Mrs. Martinez in S43 created a gift box on the door. S74, Mrs. Tovar made a gingerbread candy wonderland. Mrs. Moorehead had a poster of herself which was made by her students. Mrs. Anthony in S50 made a room full of people celebrating Christmas. Mrs. Reed in S70 made a reindeer stable but could not finish. Mrs. Flores in S11 decorated her door with the Polar Express. Mrs. Sciacqua in N201 made Little Timmy’s Stocking and Tree. Finally, the gym also created the Polar Express.

First place winner goes to Mrs. Tovar in room S74 with the gingerbread candy wonderland. Second goes to Jano in P.E. with their Polar Express decoration. Third goes to Mrs. Sciacqua in N201 with Little Timmy’s stocking and tree. The first-place winner will receive a treat like donuts or cookies after break while 2nd and 3rd will receive nothing but the gloating opportunity.
