“Keep your eye on the ball.” -Angel Garibay, grade 12

Along with Assistant Coach Ms. Stacey Goedhard, Boys’ Tennis Head Coach Mr. James Lundberg is ready to start the new season, saying, “I’m really excited this year because we have a lot of seniors and some good leadership. I’m excited to have some returning players as well that came back after a few years of covid troubles.” With the team practicing Monday through Friday afterschool on the tennis court, they are ready to start the season. Once games start, which will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the team is most excited to play Reedley since they are usually strong and have many players. They would also like to beat Sunnyside.

Coach Lundberg says the team’s strength is their depth, “We have a lot of really good quality kids, I’d say 10-12 really skillful players. Usually, a team has two or three strong players, but I would say we have 7 or 8.” If you want to be a “key” player on the team, Coach Lundberg believes the way to improve is consistency with attendance and effort, and repetition when practicing.

Luckily, he believes that COVID has not caused problems this year, as tennis is a safe sport. If you want to support the team, Coach Lundberg recommends, "Supporting the fundraisers and coming out to support our games, since we don’t get many spectators and having students out there would be a lot of fun.”
